There's so many cool things you can do with photography (if you have the right camera and time) and photoshop.

Oren Lavie was nominated for a Grammy for best MV, for a series of stills strung into a video:
 

And now you can make photos from scratch using photoshop, anything is possible. A friend of mine found this tutorial online (he'd originally got sucked into a hobby of sticking our photoshopping our faces into celebrities =.=; two of our guy friends made it to picture of Bella and Edward from Twilight).


Figures..as I've learned..are really important in journal articles and theses.
They must clearly depict the results you want to show, so that the readers can judge for themselves whether or not they support the conclusions you assert. Good figures leave a lasting impression, and can lead to covers. This takes hours of fiddling with microscopes, cameras, luck and months to acquire good technique. (not to mention patience and the skill to not go mad spending 6 hours a day in a windowless, dark room).

But..with the right photoshop program...
I can say bollocks and get away with sufficient pictures. it's not really fudging results, but cleaning up pictures, i.e. removing air bubbles, adjusting backgrounds, contrasts. Less time at the microscope or behind the camera and more slack time for me. It's a God-save to say the least.
